HP265 steel application

HP265 steel application

HP265 steel, as specified in the Chinese standard GB 6653, is a hot-rolled carbon structural steel primarily used for manufacturing welded gas cylinders, such as those for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), acetylene, oxygen, and liquid chlorine. Its key applications include:

Welded Gas Cylinders: HP265 is widely used for producing 2kg, 5kg, 10kg, and 50kg LPG cylinders, as well as acetylene and oxygen cylinders, due to its good stamping performance, weldability, and pressure resistance. It is particularly suited for household and industrial gas storage, with a significant share in 15kg-class LPG cylinders.

Liquefied Gas Tanks for Vehicles: HP265 is employed in manufacturing liquefied gas tanks for automotive applications, leveraging its stable chemical composition and moderate strength.

Other Pressure Vessels: Its properties make it suitable for various containers requiring moderate yield strength and good plasticity under pressure.

Key Properties Supporting Applications:

Mechanical Properties: Moderate yield strength, good elongation, and low yield-to-tensile strength ratio (0.7-0.78) enhance safety and formability during stamping.

Microstructure: Uniform ferrite with minimal pearlite, fine grain size (≥9), and controlled inclusions (3-5μm) prevent cracking during deep drawing.

Processing: Suitable for cold stamping and welding, with production via electric arc or oxygen processes and rolling ranges of 1.6-12mm thickness.

HP265 is valued for its cost-effectiveness, reliable performance, and suitability for short-process manufacturing like thin slab continuous casting, making it a staple in the gas cylinder industry.
