Indian steel pipe manufacturer petitions for temporary ban on steel exports

The Indian Steel Pipe Manufacturers Association (IPMA) said publicly on Thursday, April 22 that in the face of steel shortage and high prices, domestic steel pipe manufacturers have petitioned the government to intervene and temporarily ban Indian steel exports. In the past ten months, steel prices have increased by as much as 60%, and the market is afraid of heights, which has led most steel pipe manufacturers to face invalid orders. At the same time, the petition pointed out: India's steel exports accounted for nearly half of the total sales, resulting in a shortage of domestic steel pipe manufacturing materials.

IPMA said that the Indian government has decided to increase the proportion of natural gas in India's total energy production from 6.4% to 15% by 2030. As an important part of the oil and gas industry, steel pipe materials will not be able to achieve this goal if the government can not guarantee reasonable price and sufficient supply of pipe materials.
